The rosary is a form of prayer and meditation combined has been around for over 1200 years. The origin of the Rosary Back to the ninth century, where Irish monks recite and sing the 150 Psalms of the Bible as an important part of their worship. People living near the monasteries were attracted to this beautiful devotion, harmony and became eager to join the prayers of the monks. Unfortunately, people were not adapt to this form of prayer because the psalms were difficult to remember and hard copies of the Psalms were not available. Accordingly, it has been offered to people outside the monastery to recite a series of 150 "Our Father" phrases rather than the Psalms.
This form of devotion has become increasingly popular, people began to devise methods for tracking your prayers. In Initially, 150 small stones were placed in bags made of leather to keep track. Since this method was rather boring, a thin rope of 50 knots was used instead (used three times for a total of 150 sentences). Finally, the instrument of choice became the use chain of small pieces of wood.
Years later, the Irish monks traveled throughout Europe and brought to this form of devotion towards them. In some regions, people, clergy and laity began to recite the "Angelic Salutation" (the first part of this we now know that the "Ave Maria"), as part of this devotion. The popularity of this prayer to the adoption of 50 Angelic Salutations said that each piece of wood or rope knot in prayer.
During the 13th century, the medieval theologians began to interpret the 150 psalms as veiled mysteries of life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. They began writing a number of harps, or praise in honor of Jesus to all interpretations of the Psalms. In addition, 150 Psalters honoring Mary were also composed. To assemble the chain existing prayer, these harps were divided into groups of 50 and were called "Rosarium." While the "string" refers roses and rose gardens, has been used to describe a collection of sentences that could be likened to a bouquet of roses. As we see today Rose is a very popular symbol associated with our Mother Mary and it is a sign that she uses often as he did at Guadalupe, Mexico.
The interpretation of the Psalms in his writings lead Psalters application of thought or special meditations given to each account. This innovative version of the Rosary has been widely known as the Blessed Alain de la Roche Dominican Order, who presented the works of divine inspiration and his rosary Fraternity Santo Domingo had begun a century earlier. The afternoon prayer was Rosarium in groups of 10 and these groups became known as decades. Each decade of ten Hail Mary "prayers are preceded by an Our Father."
In 1700, the thoughts used in the rosary began to turn into stories. St. Louis de Montfort wrote the stories the most common was eventually used as meditations for each decade of the rosary. These stories have been divided into five joyful, five sorrowful, glorious and five meditations known as "mysteries". As recently as 2002, Pope John Paul II made another series of five meditations called "Mysteries of Light."
As you can see the Rosary as we know it today is the result of many developments that dates back hundreds of years. Although the way you recite the Rosary has changed, the results of the Rosary prayer remain the same. Many interventions still occur today, and thank the divine power and Rosary offers are available for anyone willing to give it a try.
