"The Book of Eli"
My 00 to 10: 5

Michael Gambon, Tom Waits
Duration: 1 hour, 58 minutes ..
Note: R (brutal violence, vulgarity)

A film very, very strange. And he certainly has their attention. Denzel Washington is very labor superhero Hand cons bad horrible, how could it be otherwise?

"The Book of Eli" proposes a new post-apocalyptic scenario, this time apparently occurs then we are told, a big hole, a "Flash", opened in the sky during a war, called Solara. He burned the planet.

What comes from this event? A desert world, of course. And the film is not really so different from the offer Road Warrior, except that there no car chases. The only problem is that both hero and villain is motivated and directed by, of all things, the Bible. If the movie will be approved or condemned by Christians is a guess. Cruelty and sadism are held there, of course, and you feel hampered by a lack of imagination distinct. That is, until the end. In this, there are signs of meaning and plausibility.

Some. Bleak in the absence of any sign of comical, with a powder texture choking relentlessly barren desert in its appeal in sepia images - almost black and white in many areas - we 're hungry for some variation, some punctuation in the dark, some nuances.

However, Denzel's performance is charismatic and can probably live with that, even waiting for a true statement of how corruption of human feelings and messages sublime book.

Almost fatal for the film, in short, is the many examples I leave you with the question: "Yes, but how? ... What ... Where?" In other words, its improbabilities and contradictions unanswered are more uncomfortable. However, surprisingly, the uncertainty factor is dominant, the film predator-prey situations is exceptionally well prepared.

So it's Eli, a mysterious 30-year wandering through the landscapes arid death after the great destruction. He became, as required for the genre, with sunglasses and backpack, which also carries a formidable blade - And the world is only the Bible. A voice that sent Eli to come out west and see the Bible as the basis for a new Earth.

How which it travels are filled with the remains of a civilization that was destroyed existed before the flash, what we understand, were the cause of war.

We will shortly be sent to the combat prowess of Eli melee found with marauding cannibal barbarians who are quite crazy to attack. With his (apparently) a bit of supernatural powers and his sword in flames, making short work of all but one. Presumably, the book helped in this area.

The only surviving wonder where it goes. He says, "West". That's it. With landscape are the bodies unattended for 30 years. No attempt has been made by anyone to rebuild a semblance of civilization.

But it's good enough for lead to a dark void that may have been a city at a time. In an abandoned hotel behind a desk, a bodyguard for high-consultant bald dwarf insoluble feel Carnegie (Gary Oldman). He seems fascinated by reading a biography of Benito Mussolini.

Carnegie is a decision of the intellect. All around its stupid. But he knows that the water source, something that keeps him in power. Sometimes its primary mission in recent years been - a Bible. It are, admittedly, but a few survivors who remember what it was before the Apocalypse. However, there is the belief that religion was the Due all this, including a drive to destroy the Bible. Carnegie believed that the supreme power can not achieve that by looking up the word.

Carnegie sees Eli a. It requires. Eli refuses. Carnegie SICS his men on him. Big mistake. Now the two are mortal enemies. small ragtag army of Carnegie, in his jerry-rigged vehicles Eli hunt. More an object of this research was a baby, Solara (Mila Kunis), which was named after the great event. It Carnegie is the adoptive daughter, and here's your chance to escape.

found refuge in a remote house elderly couple (Michael Gambon and Frances de la Tour) who used to records and a playground in an old gramophone (the only hint of a moment of humor in the film).

Carnegie is not possible, do not help your situation with her blind woman (Jennifer Beals) who abuse. Redridge headed thugs (Ray Stevenson), wanted to Solara alone.

The film is a curiosity in what they do and not do. It is also inefficient and disbelief.
