When you look through the history of the church, who is surprised by the almost total silence on a "pre-tribulation" rapture. But In 1830, a single "prophecy" was picked up by a leader of the movement and began to spread. At that time, called the "father of modern Dispensationalism "dream he heard Margaret Macdonald, and visited him. You heard right, then went home and made some changes integrating it into their own end-time theories.
John Darby was also the father of the movement of the Plymouth Brethren, a church was openly proud of what he called this "new doctrine" once before. Brian M. Schwertley in How the pre-tribulation Rapture Biblical? Says "the Plymouth Brethren openly accepted and even proud of the fact that his teachings were totally new that has never been taught by the Fathers of the Church, the medievalists, Protestant Reformers or the many comments. "
I'm not clear who the "prince of preachers" Charles Spurgeon spoke in the following quote, but one wonders if it was the "brothers" themselves. Spurgeon lived in the day when removing pre-tribulation has recently hatched. Is it clear what he thought of the idea. Hear me:
"... There is some problem today sect abroad, he said," to whom it All what is needed is a prophecy speculation ever ... Pen themselves on a secret rapture of expectation, and without vain imaginations know this side ... "
The creator of the "Scofield Reference Bible" (1917) includes the teachings of Darby his notes. Seeing these things "in the Bible" holy emboldened many to rely on this doctrine as if God had said to himself. It was followed by the inclusion Pre-tribulationism in programs well known and beloved institutions like Moody Bible Institute and Dallas Theological Seminary, and in the years 1970, a book and movie young theologian Hal Lindsay.
There seemed no one can stop after. Today, it has infiltrated much of the evangelical world in the West. It is far from universal in the church today, and far from the historical as I have shown, but is it as well say "minority" of believers, especially in the West / America who swear by this doctrine.
Fortunately, history is not our purpose, or even our best when deciding on the truth of a teaching. History spoke clear words, but God himself has spoken on this issue and all that matters for a believer. Let us see what His Word says about it, and that all theories men are gone.
