Can no experience in the construction of hurricane-resistant construction in a week? The answer is yes - at least if God is on their side.
Scott Coulombe and a crew of seven years, he built a church of light gauge steel in Santa Rita de Copan, Honduras, America Central, one week in March 2004. Here's how it happened.
Coulombe is also a hands-on guy who happens to earn a living designing, the manufacture and sale of development components for the construction of lightweight steel.
Clifton Bullock Missionaries of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, is a missionary Christian Santa Rita.
During a visit to the Mission in 2003, Coulombe said moisture, termites conditions easily Honduras were ideal for steel buildings. He also noted that Bullock missionary church congregation and local communities have begun to build a concrete basis for the quarter of a pastor and church.
Coulombe felt rejected building elements located in the courtyard rear of the plant and thought, "I could build a church on these things."
Back on the ground, Coulombe uses a magnet to collect screws rejected after the workday was done. He knew a lot of videos would be recoverable.
A generous gift to send Coulumbe a container of steel building components and accessories with the mission of Honduras in November 2003.
Finally Coulombe, a member of Community Baptist Church in Gorham, NH, has hired a team of the church that supports the mission, Chester Bible Fellowship of Chester, NH
The day of the week
For now it is March 2004. Coulombe, Bullock and six other people who had never built a steel framed building had put gloves, tools and enthusiasm for the mission.
He had taken the bull and his people 18 months to provide foundations, concrete block and raise the walls of the first floor of the church. Few could imagine complete the filing within seven days.
His material was in disarray them. It was scrap steel - white rusty twisted and turned away from the production line.
The crew ordered and run materials, and began to build the initial structure. The missionary children, Josiah and Micah went to work to sort the good from the bolts evil.
And the evening and morning one day.
The base measures 35 "by 70", almost half of it has been locked in block walls, and the remaining 60 percent was designed as a meeting place outdoors. Coulombe and the crew installed a second floor through the block walls, 18 - and 16 gauge beams and 26 gauge purchased locally corrugated iron roof.
And the evening and morning a second day.
Standing on the second floor, the team raised the walls of the second floor. They used steel studs 6 inches for the development, implementation strapping steel horizontal position on which to attach galvanized coating.
And the evening and morning a third day.
The roof, usually one of the most difficult aspects of a wood frame structure has been relatively easy for the inexperienced crew currently. They cut the rafters and the soil transported by hand to its place among members of the drafting of the second floor. The low weight of steel parts made it possible.
Are evening and morning were the fourth day.
With trusses in place, the crew placed the sheet metal roof, accompanied by the church. And in the meeting outdoor 1050 meters square, raised the rafters in the upper block walls 3.5 meters.
And the evening and the morning fifth day.
All that remains of the installation of the roof above the church doors. The crew is now with confidence, encouraged by their achievements and the prospect of a task to complete.
And the evening and morning, the sixth day.
And the crew saw that it was good.
The seventh day, the crew rested - and he is happy. Rookies Initially they were, but now they have taken to builders.
Many in the congregation mourning the fact that their churches over. They saw what he had fact, and found it was very good.
And safety codes
"Honduras is going to eat termites support the entire entry in a season, "says Coulombe. "And time can sometimes be severe. These people may have a structure that provides shade and shelter for years to come. "
The crew has doubled until the security features, including elements of the indicator 16. Is sufficient to withstand hurricanes, termites and floods. These measures included in a community that has zero building codes.
Hands and feet
Scott Coulombe, like to see projects completed, so this project mission been carrying on several levels. "You can make a donation of $ 500 and get your picture in the paper gives a big check to a worthy vessel, he said, "but you can also go up, roll up your sleeves and do it.
"You have to set foot on the idea," he said.
God knows all about building something in a week. And now, it takes eight of the faithful in New England who had never built a steel building thin.
Postscript: The American crew members in the breeding of the church of Santa Rita mission were Tim Peloquin, Bryan Moquin, Pastor John Ziemba, Jim Radzelovage, Peter Johnson, pastor Cyantano, Coulombe and Scott Clifton Bullock missionary. Jane Bullock and Christina, the wife and Clifton's daughter, kept the crew fed and watered.
